The Village and town of Wausaukee have evolved from a lumber mill community in the 1880’s into a community with over eighty businesses that provide diverse services, manufacturing and final assembly jobs.
Wausaukee is centrally located in the middle of Marinette County, on Highway 141. Marinette County offers vast public lands, ATV/snowmobile trails, and beautiful scenery including waterfalls, lakes, streams, forests, and rolling hills all around Wausaukee.
In fact, the name Wausaukee comes from the earliest native settlers, the Menominee tribe, and means “among the rolling hills.” The Wausaukee area is a great place for outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, boating, hiking and camping.
Tourism and outdoor sports related activities are a very large part of the local economy because of the proximity to state and county natural resources. Campgrounds, motels, resorts, vacation homes and acreage offer the non-resident an opportunity to enjoy our lovely area.
The Village took advantage of the Highway 141 rebuild in 2016 to incorporate a streetscape plan for Main Street, which has certainly enhanced the look of the Village. They have also received a Connect Communities grant.
